Volunteer with The Harbor
Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Compensation: Volunteer
Hours: Hours vary; 2-5 hours per week on average
Reports To: Deputy Director
The Harbor is Clatsop County’s primary community-based advocacy service for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and stalking. Established in 1976 as a crisis line, our services have evolved to include a 24-hour support line and 24/7 crisis response, a drop-in advocacy center, confidential shelter, and wrap around services like support groups, legal support, and mental health services. Our services are all free and confidential. We work from a trauma-informed empowerment model, which means we believe that survivors are the experts in their own lives and have the ability to make the best decisions for their own lives.
Position Purpose:
Like most non-profits in rural communities, we depend on volunteers to meet the needs of the community we serve. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding volunteers according to the needs of The Harbor, and the interests and qualifications of the individual volunteer. The purpose of this volunteer position is to ensure that The Harbor has a strong network of capable, reliable volunteers, and that they are utilized to fulfill The Harbor’s mission of providing advocacy, prevention and support to promote self-determination and hope for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and stalking.

Responsibilities:

Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques (social media, website, tabling events, etc)

Ensure the mission of The Harbor and expectations for volunteering are clearly communicated to volunteers

Review volunteer applications and interview candidates

Collect information on availability, skills, and interests

Onboard new volunteers and ensure they complete the appropriate training

Organize and facilitate a monthly volunteer meeting

Review performance and expectations with volunteers on a regular basis

Organize volunteers and assign responsibilities for special events

Coordinate with and schedule volunteers on a weekly or monthly schedule

Communicate with volunteers regularly to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed

Disseminate information for upcoming actions and events

Required Qualifications & Experience:
-

+2 years of experience organizing volunteers OR
-
+2 years experience as a supervisor at a non-profit or community-based organization
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Proactive with strong organizational skills

Ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks and handle a variety of projects simultaneously

Basic computer technology skills, including Microsoft Office programs. Ability to learn new technology systems and implement within scope of duties

Must have transportation, current insurance coverage, and a valid driver's license

One or more years of experience organizing volunteers
Preferred Qualification & Experience:

Bilingual and/or bicultural
-
1 or more years of experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence
