Volunteer Training: Trauma, PTSD and the Effects of Exposure to Violence on Children

  • Clatsop Community College, Towler 208 Astoria, OR 97103 (map)

These volunteer trainings are free and open to the public with particular emphasis on our Community Partners. They’re a great way to find out more about a particular topic - or come to all of them to discover some of the background of advocate training at The Harbor.

Trauma literally changes the brain and can continue to affect people’s health and wellbeing even many years later. Becoming trauma informed by learning how trauma affects survivors is perhaps the most key element of DV and SV advocacy work. In addition to an overview of trauma informed care, this class will discuss the devastating effects that witnessing domestic abuse can have on children and how advocates can help to mitigate some of that damage.

Please note that these classes are only part of the full volunteer training and attendance does not confer Harbor volunteer status on any participant or lead to Advocate Certification.
