Our 15th Annual Soup Bowl is a celebration of the return of one vital service that The Harbor has not been able to provide since 2015: confidential shelter for survivors and their family members when they are fleeing a violent situation. Did you know that due to many different complex barriers, including lack of safe housing, it takes a survivor on average seven attempts to leave an abusive relationship? Or that 50-75% of domestic violence homicides occur when a survivor is fleeing? Our shelter program is about more than just a place to sleep. It’s about carefully planning with survivors so that they can safely and successfully leave an abusive relationship. It’s about providing holistic support and community that respects the identities, cultures, and goals of each survivor so that they leave shelter with new power and control over their lives. It’s about supporting survivors to be in their element, rebuilding self-love, self-worth, and self-trust.
This year, as we come together to bring resources to our shelter, we are excited to announce that Soup Bowl guests will have a sneak peek into the shelter through a special virtual tour. Guests will enjoy local beer and wine while bidding on outstanding silent auction packages and enjoying delightful live music.
